A Visitor

Hello everyone. Lots of love. Life is good. This afternoon while sitting on the patio chatting with my sister, I flipped out as something large flew by my head. I turned to see a blue dragonfly chilling on the ironwork of the metal outer door. It sat there, and sat there, just a foot away from my chair. It is still very hot in Arizona so I had the misters on, I thought perhaps it was just getting some water. Once I decided to go in, a good 6 minutes later I slowly opened the door but it remained there. It was so close to me, they are beautiful and have big heads. lol

Meaning

Dragonflies take on the role of spiritual guides for us. They are powerful yet graceful – even in high wind. They show us how to navigate life’s storms with confidence and ease. They motivate us to let go of whatever holds us down or holds us back.

They also mean change and transformation. A clear sign for me and my sister.

Unplugged

Things happen for a reason, and it is so cool when you can see the wonder in these (in my case) Mercurial mishaps, like breaking my phone. They had to order the part and when they got it, they broke it, so repeat the process. I have been without a phone or the internet for eight days now. In those eight days amazing things have happened. I mean it’s not like I never get on the internet, because I can go places that have it. I have been unplugged by the universe; I have accomplished major amounts of schoolwork, written a revisionist Cinderella, and done a lot of reading. It has forced me to shift my focus. I have to plan ahead, what information or downloads do I need to work offline. I don’t know but it has been different.

I was thinking of calling this post, “Build It and They Will Come.” Why, you do ask?  If you are a blog friend, or reader you may recall our first sighting of the African Love Birds? Well a wild population has managed to flourish in the Phoenix area. I have seen one in my back yard, and my boyfriend saw a flock land in the yard, but I did not. Yesterday as I was chilling in my backyard garden and they came. The African Love Birds came and put on a magical show for me. They were eating seed from my glass flower feeders in the trees, they sat on branches in pairs and looked at me, they got on my bird swing, and they did every cute thing imaginable. As they would fly around playing it was an explosion of color like a Monet painting. Oh my god, I was just in heaven. I take that as a very good sign.

I have my student teaching position confirmed for Spring, that is good. I am already asking for letters of recommendation et cetera. The Grimm Brothers essay is up, also an A+.

I should be plugged in and back online later today, or tomorrow.

Parrot as Totem:

Scorpion Killer

“Strange days indeed. Lord have mercy mama!”

On November 1, Día de Muertos, I spent the day with the Brothers Grimm. I have discovered there is a profession that I did not realize existed, because if I had realized this career path was available I might be Dr. Simms, Fairy Tale scholar. Lol When I read those words in the text we are using for my Children’s literature class I thought, “Fairy Tale scholar?” Yes please. However, well I am no Spring chicken. Nonetheless, Fairy tale scholar is a cool title and profession in my book. As I was reviewing the collection of fairy tales to write my literary theory critique I observed that feminist must certainly have a field day in that genre, the maidens, and princesses, are dense at best. The other is the stepmother/temptress archetypes which are horrible. There were a number of passive fathers who did whatever the temptress, usually the stepmother, wished to do. There were very few honorable archetypes represented in the collection which consisted of; Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, Rumplestiltskin, The Frog King, and, Hansel and Gretel.

So, why the title you ask? This occurred what is now yesterday, I worked on my essay for most the day, then as I was getting ready for bed, about 11 P. M. I see a strange shape crawling into my room. I do not recognize it as our abundant cricket population, as I look closer I see it’s curved tail. It was the first live scorpion that I have ever encountered in my life. As it was crawling into my bedroom I panicked and grabbed the closest thing to me, The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm, and smashed it! Freaky, on 11/1 at around 11, I see and kill a scorpion, while we are in Scorpio astrologically, with The Brothers Grimm, and only two days after my birthday, I kept the scorpion, which I really hated to kill, in a jar.

The Harnessed Bunny

An interesting specific totem archetype surfaced the other day. As I was leaving Hogwarts, which is what I call the Language Arts building at school, I saw a couple sitting under a tree with a bunny on a harness. I didn’t give it much thought other than, “Oh how cute.” You know a typical response. Once home for my couple hour break before returning across town to campus, I decided to read my Fairy tarot, one of the cards I drew was The Prince of Spring (Wands), “On the card the prince rides a rabbit, moving quickly from one adventure to another!” Immediately I observe the synchronicity, and I thought “How curious?” I though “Where is the third?” Then I realized a novel I had just started reading, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, by E. Lockhart, has a protagonist who is called “Bunny rabbit” by her family. So, what does this all mean? I mean it is too odd to mean nothing.

I know standard rabbit symbolism; fertility, abundant sexuality, abundance, so forth and so on. In two instances harnessed, and actually as well in the third with the novel’s heroine, Frankie. Since I will not go into the novel suffice to say, she is restrained by society, by her family, her gender, so forth and so on. In brief the narrative is about a girl, a secret fraternity at a top boarding school, a side of society not many are privy to. Therefore I will look at the symbolism.

I ran across an article I had not read before that seemed primarily to speak to me in this regard.

Rabbit Power Animal Symbol of Creativity, Intuition, Paradox, and Fear

Rabbit is interpreted in different ways in different cultures. In China, it is one of the astrological animals and linked too good fortune and the moon. People born under Rabbits sign are believed to be artistic and sensitive. The Rabbit is also linked with the goddess Hecate. In some Native American traditions Rabbit is known as the Fear Caller, due to it projecting its fear of those wishing to eat it, and thereby attracting the predators it fears. Ever heard the phrase scared as a rabbit? Well, rabbits are well known as timid, shy and afraid creatures. We can learn from the rabbit that if we are always afraid of something then we may draw/create the very experience we are afraid of in to our lives. Fear sends out a certain vibrational energy that may attract the very thing we fear. Fearful thoughts reproduce (like rabbits) and manifest what we fear. Rabbit people may be afraid of tragedy, illness, and disaster, thereby calling those very fears to them to teach them lessons

If a rabbit lives in constant fear of being eaten by an eagle, then this increases the chances of this happening by sending out negative energy. The rabbit should dedicate his time and energy to becoming clever and cautious in order to outwit the eagle. If the rabbit finds you then ask yourself whether you are worried or afraid of something. Ask yourself what the best way to handle the situation is. Are you able to let go of your fears? Is there a friend who is able to help you, someone whom you trust? Whatever, living with fear is no good for you.

Rabbits are guides into the shadow world, where our personal fears lie. When the rabbit shows up it is time to examine those deep reflexive fears that hold you back from growing. Do you keep bounding for the safety of your old patterns every time something new or challenging presents itself? If the answer is yes, the rabbit asks you to face your fears with compassion for yourself. You must accept that it is part of human nature to feel fear at times, but also believe that our fears need not paralyze our growth and movement.

Rabbit medicine is also very positive, showing us how to attract love, abundance, health, and a warm, dry burrow. We are guided to move through fear, living by our own wits, receiving hidden teachings and intuitive messages, quick thinking, strengthening intuition, and paradox. Rabbit represents humility, being quiet and soft and not self-asserting. If you see Rabbit or in any way feel attracted to him, this may be a sign for you to wait for the forces of the universe to start moving again, to stop worrying and to get rid of your fears. Rabbit always indicates a need to re-evaluate the process you are undergoing, to rid yourself of any negative feelings or barriers, and to be more humble.

Rabbits are vegetarians. Though they are eating, they are always alert. They eat the inner bark of saplings and shrubs as well as leaves and fruit, giving a perfect illustration of Nature’s balance. Their rapid rate of reproduction is balanced out by the fact that almost every predatory animal eats them. This power animal may be asking you to examine the kinds of foods you eat. Perhaps a vegetarian diet, only for a short time, can help you strengthen and heal. Generally rabbits are most likely to be seen between dawn and dusk. The sun rising and setting from horizon to horizon has an air of mystery surrounding it. This is the time when the invisible becomes visible and nature spirits are more distinct. Due to the rabbit and the fairy realms being active at the same time of day, rabbit has a strong link with the magic and mystery of other worlds. To enter these worlds requires but a leap of faith. Rabbits are highly sensitive with keen observational skills, granting them strong reflexes that help them dash to safety. In the time it takes to bat an eyelid, they can be seen, disappear and reappear. Fast, agile and clever, they teach us spontaneous decisive movement, always knowing which direction to go and when. When rabbit appears, this may help us to grasp an opportunity that may only present itself for brief moments.

Rabbits tend to move suddenly and unpredictably. They leap and bound their way through life. If rabbit has entered your life, you may find tat your endeavors also go in leaps and bounds. Maybe this is an indication for you to plan more or to check any plans already set in motion. Do not corner yourself. Pay attention to your personal movement. Growth is assured if one is moving in balance with what is occurring in their life. If one moves too fast or too slow an imbalance occurs and growth is stifled.

We are able to realize what a good teacher Rabbit is in showing us that we are the creators of our lives with our thoughts and emotions. Rabbit feels fear and projects it, creating in the external world situations reflecting the inner world of fear. For us, this is an important lesson. Affirmations, involve focusing on what you want in life and positive outcomes. Thoughts have a certain energy frequency, creating a vibration aiding them to become reality. Just as true when you think about and focus on what you don’t want to happen, a lot of the time we don’t even do this on purpose we do it automatically and even subconsciously, gathering strength unknowingly. This makes it extremely necessary to bring our fears into consciousness – into the light, treating them with gentleness.

Rabbit ability of being alert and aware of its surroundings ALL the time, can help us be aware that we ALL have the power to create with our thoughts and to be aware of them, to redirect them on a positive path and to be focused on our dreams, not allowing our focus to be distracted from our intentions with negative emotions, especially from actualizing our wishes and dreams.

An appropriate take on my symbolic totem scenario.

So today I have an unlikely totem visit my backyard, obviously someone’s pet parrot is loose.

Parrot as a totem

The parrot as a healer would be representative of both a color therapist and a speech therapist. Parrot is a magical totem that teaches us that the world is full of possibility. The role of the parrot is that of a linguist opening communication centers. When parrot totem appears look to see if you need assistance in understanding views that are different from your own. It may be time to widen your horizons or sign up for a class to learn a new language

With its brightly colored feathers, the parrot is considered a bird of the sun. The attributes of color and association with the life-giving sun are what gives it its magic. Parrot feathers can be used in prayer sticks for powerful healing rites and also to invoke the energies of the sun at any time of the year.

Some parrots are taught to mimic humans. Because of this ability, the parrot is considered a link or bridge between the bird kingdom and the human one. In this sense, parrots can be viewed as ambassadors, diplomats, or interpreters for the bird realm. They have a magic that can awaken a diplomacy within and enable you to understand others more effectively.

In the Pueblo tradition, parrots are associated with the gathering of salt. Salt was a precious commodity, and the places where salt was found, were considered a gift from the sun. Since the parrot was a bird of the sun to the Pueblo, there is that correlation. But the most noticeable attribute of parrots is its bright colors. Anyone with a parrot as totem should study colors and their effects. Thus the parrot can be a wonderful teacher of the power of light and color.

Naturally, butterflies are used for symbolizing femininity, style and charm.

On the other hand, the black color is associated with numerous human emotions and qualities that are often overpowering. These qualities are – power, authority, sexuality, mystery, sophistication, elegance, style, anger, fear, unhappiness, evil, depth, sadness, death, mourning, remorse and the unknown. I think, the same symbolism of black color is likely to have been linked up with butterflies; which created the theory of black butterfly meaning. Nevertheless, the symbolism and the constructs that are related with black butterflies, have alluded many of us, at least once. Symbolism and Meaning of Black Butterfly

As far as lepidopterology (a scientific branch that studies butterflies and moths) is concerned; the black and deep colors of butterflies are a result of the melanin color pigments present in them. Let’s look into the symbolism of black butterfly.

Metamorphosis: In many cultures, it is believed that black butterflies are the symbol of transition, renewal or rebirth. It is also believed that black butterflies could be a symbol of rebirth of something or people. They are also symbolized for longevity and shift in the power. In short, black butterflies are supposed to be the sign of positive change in the present situation.

Death Warning: In various parts of the world including Central America, Philippines, China, black butterflies are considered as a symbol of death. Hence, according to these people, a black butterfly or moth in the house is the warning of death of a member of the house. They also appear in the house when someone in the house has already died.

Dead Souls: According to the fascinating (and a bit scary) lores of the land of the Celts or Ireland, black butterflies are nothing but souls of the deceased people. According to Irish people, when deceased people fail to discover their Afterlife, they turn into a black butterfly. Hence, these butterflies can enter the house or properties where they once belonged as a living soul.

Witch Camouflage: The infamous witches are also associated while explaining the meaning of a black butterfly. According to the folklores, witches transform themselves into black butterflies so that nobody can recognizes them while stealing various foods that they need to eat! This is especially evident with reference to black butterflies or moths that appear in or around the houses at night.

Fire Goddess: According to Aztec mythology, Obsidian Butterfly or Itzpapalotl was the warrior goddess of fire and infant mortality. In historic documents, Itzpapalotl is associated with moths, deer and black butterfly. She is described as the star demon who devours people during solar eclipse. According to iconography, she camouflages in the forms of various creatures and insects so as to stay unrecognizable.

Positive Symbolism: No matter whether you believe in the black butterfly symbolism or don’t; you can still take out a few positive meanings from the aforementioned butterfly symbolism. At least that is what most of the people do while getting butterfly tattoos. You see, in most of the stories, black butterfly is associated with change, transition, freedom and rebirth. It is symbolized as death – assume it as the death of all the bad things and misfortunes!

All these things are both mythical and real. Mythical – if you want to take them in the negative manner; and real – if you want to take them in a positive manner.

Totem’s

They just keep coming. . . My favorite was about a week ago a hawk making beautiful circles in a cloudless blue sky right above my house.

Hawk

The hawk can soar high and reach the heavens effortlessly. As most bird totems, this power animal is often considered as a messenger who brings messages from the spirit world and the unseen. If you have the hawk as a spirit animal, you may be inclined to play with divination tools and use your intuition to guide your steps in life. Working with the hawk totem could reinforce your ability to rely this type of guidance. When the hawk shows up in your life, be sensitive to the messages it may carry and be receptive to your own intuition.

Totem Tally

Hello friends! Sorry I have been So busy with school, Algebra Midterms, essays. . . Never ending~

I did want to share some more totem sightings. So yesterday on my way out to my car to go to school, I see a gold dragonfly, Cool, but then I get to school and walking to class I see another gold dragonfly, and not off to the side hovering over my direct path.

Today after stressing on Math midterm (we were allowed to bring this part home, which is cool of my professor) I go outside. The sun has moved (I suppose that is to be expected) and it is now setting behind the tree to the left where the hummingbird feeder is. A beautiful hummingbird came by for dinner and its wings in midair were back-lite by the setting sun. It was such a lovely observance.

Oh, and an angel left me a feather this morning too.

Black Butterfly

This morning while having my first coffee I see the beautiful black butterfly that has been a visitor of late sitting wings spread motionless in a tree. I am thinking perhaps it is sleeping. So I watch it, it doesn’t move. It doesn’t move and go inside get my phone to take its picture. I take its picture close up several times. I am a little bummed as it must be dead. So then I get the scissors because I am going to cut the branch from the tree to bring it in, suddenly it flies away hitting my arm on the way. Guess it was only sleeping. I laughed and laughed.

My butterfly has yellow and looks more like a skull. It was a delightful thing to find it merely sleeping.

Last day of Mercury Retrograde. Yea! Be be cautious today!
